"Governments should not say we should not be on the streets. They should not harass us if on the streets. We should be accepted”; “Living on the street does not mean that we cannot have rights.”

The child is at the center of RDWA

We believe that an aware street-connected child is the priority to transform the problems related to their situations. To ensure children are aware, we envisioned the following:

  • It starts with ASER skills

  • Implement Intervention tailored to the situations of each child.

  • Fostering children equipped to take the initiative to become active agents to change their own situations.

  • Actively involved in creating an empathetic world.

RDWA recognizes that youth holds the ultimate power to bring change in society. But most institutions have failed to give a lens by which the youth can genuinely understand the problems around them. Thus, their skills are not utilized in attaining the ultimate goal of sustainable development.

RDWA fills that void by providing youth an opportunity to connect themselves with street situations of children to develop their skills in the real issues around them. The work aims to create a pool of youth change-makers who understands the mechanisms of self-change and are committed to creating an empathetic society for children.

Mentors further expand to become leads to create a large-scale impact to make this world an empathetic place for children and attain the larger vision of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Empathetic Youth

Drawing from Gandhi Ji’s ethics, RDWA’s theory of change is grounded in understanding the self with the situations around and the self-change journey.

When the perspectives change from stereotypes to understanding, apathy to empathy, and from bully to support, the possibility of change is larger.

Thus, street situations do not change with the children; rather, it all begins with the change in our individual approach to looking at them.  RDWA supports empowering youth with skills to make deeper connections and understanding of street situations of children and co-create an empathetic society.
